Sun June 2 members of the West Wildwood Vol. Fire Company on Marine 21 participated in the Swim portion of the "Escape the Cape" Triathlon. WWVFC Marine 21 was requested by the organizer to be a part of the Marine Operations to maintain swimmer safety and remove any ill swimmers from the water. The members stood by and assisted race staff. There were close to 900 participants. There were two destinations that participants jumped of the car deck of the Twin Capes Ferry vessel. This was approximately a 12'-15' drop into the Delaware Bay. Fortunately no one was injured during this event and Marine 21 along with the other marine units saw no incidents. All swimmers made the trek to shore and once given the all clear by the organizers, Marine 21 and its crew returned to dock.
Marine 21 Crew: Ron McGowan, Dave Novsak, Ryan Albertson.
The Borough of West Wildwood conducted training today to ensure that all of their employees received CPR training and certification. Mayor Fox stated that it is important that all of the employees have this training. Further, that we have tax payers that visit our offices daily and if they should suffer a heart attack our employees can provide immediate assistance. The same can also now be provided by our Public Works Department who is out in the community daily. Any delay in providing CPR can make the difference between life and death. The Borough employees are now better equipped to provide assistance to our community. The training was provided by Chief Bill Cripps of the West Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company.
